What is BAYAC Americorps?

groupBAYAC/OCASA AmeriCorps is an intermediary organization that collaborates with over 40 community service organizations to serve youth and families in all 6 counties of the San Francisco Bay Area. As part of AmeriCorps, a federally funded national and community service program, BAYAC/OCASA Members commit to a term of service in a full time (1700 hr).

Members are trained in Youth Development Best Practices and provide direct services to youth within existing school and community based programs. BAYAC/OCASA AmeriCorps also aims to develop emerging leaders and to strengthen communities through the relationships and programs developed by the partner agencies.

EVERYDAY HEROES is a feature film that tells the story of a 21-member BAYAC/OCASA AmeriCorps team working as tutors, mentors, and health educators with K-12 students in Richmond, Berkeley and Oakland, California. The documentary, by award-winning filmmakers, Rick Goldsmith and Abby Ginzberg, shows these members learning to work with and appreciate each other while striving to make a difference in their communities.
