Website: http://www.ebac.org/

More about EBAC

East Bay Agency for Children provides students experiencing emotional and behavioral difficulties—most of them from low-income families—with vital mental health and specialized educational services. The goal: to enable them to build on their intrinsic strengths, stay in school and overcome the obstacles that could keep them from leading productive lives.

Additionally, to ensure children's continued progress in school, we also provide their families with intensive assistance in accessing community and public resources. For the larger public school community, EBAC works to improve student wellbeing through after-school programs, parent support services and child assault prevention classes.

EBAC's programs fall into five major categories

  • Mental Health Counseling at School Sites (PALS) Program goal: To foster school success for children and youth attending mainstream elementary, middle, and high school classes by providing school-based mental health services.
  • Intensive Mental Health Therapy in Specialized Classrooms Program goal: To provide intensive mental health and special educational services to children in pre-school – 12th grade with severe emotional and behavioral difficulties in order to help them transition into mainstream school classrooms or less intensive special education
  • Student and Community Family Support Services Program goal: To help children and families become stronger and more stable so that children have greater opportunities for academic and life success.
  • CAP (Child Assault Prevention) Program goal:  To provide skills and training to children and youth to reduce their vulnerability to child abuse, assault and other forms of violence. To educate parents/care givers, school staff and the community at-large on how to recognize and respond to a child in crisis.
  • Circle of Care (Grief and Illness Support Services) Program goal: To provide emotional support to children, parents and caregivers who are dealing with a family member's life-threatening illness or death.

Mission: The East Bay Agency for Children is dedicated to assuring the health and educational well-being of children and families through specialized therapeutic, educational and peer support services.

San Francisco Unifed School District - Student Intervention Team

Website: http://www.healthiersf.org/Programs/CSS/Student Intervention Team/about.cfm

More about SFUSD - SIT

The Student Intervention Team (SIT)  recruits, trains and supervises a yearly cohort of graduate level clinical interns from various University programs around the Bay Area. These emerging mental health professionals provide individual and group mental health support to students who attend SFUSD schools.

Interns are placed at school sites at the elementary, middle and/or the high school level. Each intern is placed at a site where they have access to day-to-day supervision from a school site mental health clinician. In addition to site supervision interns are provided one hour of individual clinical supervision and/or two hours of group supervision from an appropriately licensed clinician. We ensure that each university’s supervision requirements are met. Professional development opportunities and training seminars are provided for all interns who work in any program at a SFUSD school site. Annual training opportunities include topics such as : school culture; relationship building and assessment; play therapy; sand tray; group therapy, and consultation to teachers.

Clinical supervision, learning agreements, university contracts, and all evaluations are provided by licensed clinical social workers or licensed MFT clinicians who meet the appropriate requirements for each university’s program. PPSC candidates are supervised by credentialed PPSC staff with at least two years of experience.

All high school interns and some middle interns are placed at one of our school based Wellness Centers. Elementary school interns and some middle school interns are placed with a Learning Support Professional who is the designated mental health specialist at the site.

San Francisco Unifed School District - Counseling Program

Website: http://www.healthiersf.org/Programs/CSS/Counseling Internship Program/index.cfm

More about SFUSD - Counseling Program

Internships in School Counseling are available at Middle and High Schools for graduate students pursuing a Pupil Personnel Services credential (PPSC) in school counseling. All PPSCs will be supervised at their school site by a Pupil Personnel Services credentialed School Counselor, Head Counselor/Dean, Assistant Principal or Principal.

SFUSD truly values the School Counseling Intern program. It is the goal of the internship program to match interns with placements that will best help them to accomplish the requirement of the university program, and learn the skills they need to master the many roles and responsibilities performed by a school counselor to serve the education community.

School Counseling Interns are placed at school sites throughout the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) based on the need of their graduate program. School Counseling Interns must complete an informational interview and orientation once they are chosen for the Program. After they are chosen for a Program, they will be placed at a school site.

What is the role of the Middle and High School Counselor?

  • Manage a specific caseload of students
  • Schedule students for classes based on their academic plan/goals and revise
schedules based on academic, career and personal/social needs
  • Collect and disseminate to pupils and parents information regarding present and future education and career opportunities, including an orientation program to the school and its offerings
  • Guide and counsel students through the development of academic, career and personal/social life plans
