Established in 1996, the Chinatown Beacon Center is one of eight
San Francisco neighborhood based centers, striving to reflect the
local community flavor. Partnering with Wu Yee Children's Services
and Jean Parker Elementary School, the Beacon Center provides free
programs and classes for children and adults - after school, on
weekends, and throughout the summer.
When school is out, parents do not have to worry about where their
kids are, they can rely on the Chinatown Beacon Center extended
family. We complement the efforts of schools and families to create
a healthy and safe community for our youth and families.

Program Assistant: Provides
logistical support to site, including tutoring, homework assistance
and program safety at elementary and middle after-school programs.
Programs include homework centers, support groups, field trips,
nutritional health and lunchtime group activities at local schools. Ages

Mission Beacon Center

The OMI/Excelsior Beacon Center is located at James Denman Middle
School and is a part of the Urban Services YMCA. The Beacon center
provides a variety of services to the Ocean View, Merced, Ingleside
and Excelsior Neighborhoods of San Francisco. The OMI/E Beacon
was established in May of 1999 and has been providing free after
school programming, recreational activities, gang prevention, case
management, summer camp, field trips and family and community events. Ages

academic support and enrichment for middle school students as well
as a variety of other after school programming. Also acts as community

The Visitacion Valley Community Beacon Center aims to serve the
youth, families and residents of Visitacion Valley, to help youth
transition into healthy adulthood; to foster the family unit and
to empower all community members to contribute positively and participate
fully in their community.

Expanded Learning
Program

The Expanded Learning Program, open to grades 6-8, is a cooperative
effort with Francisco Middle School and the San Francisco Unified
School District. All activities take place at FMS, while Tel-Hi
brings the resources necessary for the operation of a quality program.
T
he Expanded Learning Program’s goals, objectives, and activities
are designed and evaluated with the help of Tel-Hi youth to foster
their academic achievement, leadership skills, physical development,
personal enrichment, and community activism.
Activities include tutorial, computer classes, martial arts, painting
and drawing, photography, gardening, discussion groups, and community
service.

Back On Track
Regina Herbert and Mary Salazar, Site Supervisors
Back on Track is a free one-on-one tutoring and academic mentorship
program for K-12 students. Students and volunteer tutors meet once
a week for a two-hour session. They come together from diverse
ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds to learn together and promote
cross-cultural understanding. Back on Track also provides student
with a variety of enrichment activities and field trips. Families
are given resources and training, encouraging them to become active
partners in their children's growth.

Tepees Youth Program

Seven Tepees Youth Program is dedicated to impacting the lives
of promising inner-city youth. Our mission is to work with urban
youth entrusted to our care to foster the skills they need to make
lifelong positive choices and to create their own opportunities
for success.
Our program targets inner city youth and works with them for a
period of seven years. We provide them with the building blocks
that will help them create positive, successful futures for themselves.
Youth are encouraged in social competency, academic skills, healthy
self-esteem, exposure to new options, and increased understanding
and appreciation of their natural environment.
Seven Tepees has received local and national recognition as an
innovative youth program and serves as a model to other youth service
organizations.

Y-MAC stands for Youth Making a Change. Since 1991, Y-MAC has

the leadership and power of high school age low-income young people
and people of color in San Francisco.

advocacy and an intensive leadership development process, Y-MAC
